Developmental Services Overview
“We passionately believe in the potential of all”
The Eastern Shore Community Services Board passionately believes in the potential of all individuals, including those with developmental disabilities and the caregivers who support those individuals. Individuals receiving services may need assistance with daily living skills to help them cook, clean, bathe, or dress. They might need help to understand their medications, take them on time or call for a prescription renewal or appointment with their physician. Sometimes supports need to be provided for transportation, behavioral management or communication to ensure that an individual can live as independently as possible in their community with the interventions needed. These supports can be addressed through various services under Developmental Services.
Developmental Services under the Eastern Shore Community Services Board are planned, individualized, and person-centered services and supports provided to individuals with developmental disabilities. The goal and expected outcome is to enable individuals with disabilities to increase their self-determination and independence, obtain employment if they choose, participate fully in all aspects of community life on the Eastern Shore, advocate for themselves, and achieve their fullest potential to the greatest extent possible.
All services are person centered in order to meet the personal goals and wishes of the individual, considering their preferences, dislikes, and interests. The individual, their family and other agencies provide help to develop a plan meet the individual’s identified needs. This collaboration and shared responsibility allows the individual the freedom to make choices in their life based on their wishes and desires for their future.
Eastern Shore Community Services Board staff within Developmental Services receive comprehensive training including CPR, positive behavioral supports, direct support professional training and competencies, medication management, Human Rights, Mental Health First Aid and service specific areas. Funding for services for each individual is primarily through Medicaid and Medicaid Waivers under the Department of Medicaid and the Department of Rehabilitation and Developmental Services.
