Raising Awareness on 988 Day with CBBT

September 8 marks 988 Day, a national effort to raise awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This easy-to-remember, three-digit number connects individuals with free, confidential support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This year, the Eastern Shore Community Services Board is proud to highlight a new partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT). Together, we have installed new signage along the bridge to ensure that hope and help are always within reach.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel spans 17.6 miles, connecting Virginia’s Eastern Shore to the Hampton Roads region. For those traveling across the span, these new signs serve as a vital reminder that support is just a call, text, or chat away.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides immediate access to trained crisis counselors who can offer support for anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts, a mental health crisis, or substance use-related distress. Family members and friends seeking guidance on how to help a loved one can also use the lifeline.

By placing these signs in highly visible and high-traffic locations, we are working with community partners like the CBBT to make mental health resources more accessible and to send a powerful message: you are not alone, and help is always available.

If you or someone you know is struggling, dial 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. One call can make all the difference.
