What is harm reduction?

Harm reduction is an approach that aims to minimize the negative impacts of drug use, drug policies, and drug laws on people’s health, well-being, and human rights. It offers practical and compassionate services and resources to people who use drugs, without judgment or coercion. Harm reduction is rooted in care, dignity and autonomy, and can be life-saving.

Inside each vending machine you will find various harm reduction supplies, from firearm safety devices, medication disposal kits, as well as materials for safer sex and safer injection.

The ESCSB has four harm reduction vending machines. One at both of our outpatient centers in Parksley, One at the Accomack County Health Department, and One at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital’s ER.

Public access to the vending machines will be during normal business hours: Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM*.

*Riverside’s ER is open 24/7
