In the spring of 2019, the Eastern Shore Community Services Board launched Virginia’s first Licensed Outpatient Services and Medication Assisted Treatment Mobile Unit. Funded by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, the Unit is intended to expand services in remote communities for underserved populations. This unit gives the ESCSB the ability to take its mental health services on the road to provide equitable access to our community.
Transportation is a huge issue on the Eastern Shore and prevents many from receiving necessary services. This is one way to help alleviate that barrier. This Mobile unit is an extension of the services currently provided by ESCSB’s Parksley Behavioral Health Center. The Mobile Unit follows all HIPAA regulations just as all of our brick-and-mortar treatment locations do.
The Unit is staffed with clinicians, peer recovery specialists, and a Nurse Practitioner if needed. It is equipped to provide many of the same services provided in our clinics, such as individual outpatient therapy, peer support services, medication management, and case management for individuals with Substance Use Disorders.
While appointments can be made, anyone needing services can come for walk-in services, which we call Same Day Access or SDA. SDA enrollment is offered so that treatment can be acquired quickly, with the ability to maintain that care through regular visits to the Mobile Unit.
The Mobile Unit schedule, effective January 1, 2023:
First Wednesday of each month: Chincoteague from 1 PM to 3 PM at the Island Activity Center on Smith St.
Third Wednesday of each month: Nassawadox from 1 PM to 3 PM at 10106 Pine Avenue Nassawadox, VA 23413.
